The New Stanley Marketplace Takes Flight

What’s old is new!  The new Stanley Marketplace (The Stanley), a 100,000 square foot warehouse and former airplane hangar near Stapleton, is home to dozens of cool new restaurants, boutiques and businesses.  According to Bryant Palmer, Stanley’s “Chief Storyteller,”

there is a new restaurant or business opening almost every week right now at Stanley.

If you are from Denver, a drive down Montview to the Stanley Marketplace is pretty nostalgic. Does anyone remember Ports of Call – the Denver based, members only, travel club of the 80s? Before  there was Southwest and Frontier, there was Ports of Call.  Denverites could travel via Ports of Call to Mexico, Palm Springs and the ever popular “Mystery Trip” to a different unknown destination each year.

The Ports of Call building has since been torn down with the Stapleton redevelopment, but the Stanley Aviation building still stands.  Stanley Aviation had its own important Denver history as the place where the first ejection seat was manufactured.

The new building owners have repurposed the space and created a whole different kind of destination. What started with three friends, who just wanted a brew pub for their Stapleton neighbors to hang out, turned into much more! Stanley brings families and friends together for an adventurous journey.  You can take  flight at Stanley without ever leaving the building.

According to the developers’ “Stanifesto:”

The Stanley Marketplace is where people go to live: to eat, drink, work, play, learn, grow, gather, and explore, to see friends and make new ones.

Steele Angel opens at the Stanley Marketplace

Bounce

One of coolest businesses is a large state of the art gym where parents can drop off kids on Friday or Saturday night while they (the parents) enjoy a relaxing dinner at one of the restaurants. BounceBounce at the Stanley Marketplace is the brainchild of  local fitness Endorphin owner, Chris Lindley.  The Lindleys created Bounce with their own kids in mind.   They wanted a place where kids could be moving their bodies on Saturday night, rather than staying home watching television and playing video games.  Co-owner and manager Robin Riley brings specialized experience to the business with a background working with kids and education. There is a $15 drop-in fee for kids to play from 6 to 9 pm on a first come basis.

True opens at the Stanley Marketplace

True

True is a boutique offering not only holistic fashion and essential oils, but personal styling and closet cleaning services.   That’s right, CLOSET CLEANING!  Bring in a big bag of clothes from your own closet, and a True stylist, like Pippa, the store manager and a former stylist to Stevie Nicks and Janet Jackson, will sort through your “closet” bag to tell you what to keep and what to toss. Closet cleaning services start at $50.   True’s motto is: “clean closet – fresh perspective – new goals.”  The grand opening party is all day on March 11th.

Danielle Van Ede, Owner of Sterre

Sterre

Sterre was the first boutique at Stanley and has paved the fashion forward way. Danielle Van Ede who worked for years in fine boutiques on Larimer Street knew it was finally time to open her own store. She signed a lease almost two years ago. Like every business at Stanley, Sterre projects the heart and soul of its owner.  The store’s name Sterre means star in Dutch and is the name of Van Ede’s 19 year old daughter.

Goose & The Goat

It isn’t uncommon for a restaurant to get its start as a food truck, but it isn’t everyday a store starts as a traveling bus.  Jeff Patton, co-owner of Goose & the Goat, tells the tale of how the hip shoe boutique began from “pop up” sales out of a bus.

Stanley shops share a passion for the extraordinary: Velvet Wolf is a fashion boutique located between a brew pub and a tap room; Steele Angel has a stylish design space that carries women and children’s clothing and unique home goods; Trunk Nouveau, features handcrafted wares, funny cards and unique jewelry; and Poppy & Pine, a flower shop and gift boutique, is already booked for 35 weddings this summer.

FOOD & DRINK AT STANLEY MARKETPLACE

BEAUTY & FITNESS AT THE STANLEY MARKETPLACE

Stanley is also a mecca for hair styling, spa and fitness. Semion Barbershop, a beloved local barber has opened his second Denver area locale on the second floor.  Down the hall is Clementine’s, a full service salon and spa and Base Coat, a nontoxic nail salon. There is no shortage of activity at Stanley with EndorphinBelly Bliss, Kindness Yoga  and Kinesis Pilates.

THEATER & ART AT THE STANLEY MARKETPLACE

Denver’s cutting edge arts scene is everywhere including Stanley Marketplace.  The newest and most unconventional arm of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA), Off-Center , is working in collaboration with the comedy trio A.C.E., to bring immersive theater to Stanley this spring.  Travelers of the Lost Dimension begins March 16 with performances limited to 45 audience members. The first run is almost sold out, but a one-month extension was just announced.  TICKETS are available starting at $30.

That’s not all. The art gallery A-Town is opening this month and will feature various local artists from Aurora. The artists of ZEEL have also taken flight at Stanley.  ZEEL is an eclectic community of artists that aim to evoke inspiration, ideas and conversation about social issues through art.  In addition, Stanley will also host the Cherry Arts Festival again for three days in September.
