The DPS Shakespeare Festival
This week we celebrate the birthday of William Shakespeare born April 23, 1564, and today thousands of Denver Public School (DPS) school students will descend on downtown Denver dressed in Shakespearean garb to perform sonnets and scenes they have rehearsed for weeks. The outdoor Festival goes on every year rain or shine.
According to the DPS Foundation,
The DPS Shakespeare Festival is the oldest and largest student Shakespeare festival in the country and perhaps the world!
Marking its 33rd year, the day-long Shakespeare Festival is held at the Denver Center for Performing Arts (DCPA). The Festival showcases performances by students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. After opening ceremonies the parade of students arrives at the Denver Center Complex with school banners waiving proudly.
All performances are free and open to the public. If you are working downtown, why not head over to the DCPA Complex at your lunch break to enjoy a turkey leg and a show!
